September 2, 2025 at 08:41 AM EST - Sweethearts, America's quintessential Valentine's Day candy, is launching "Ghosted Sweethearts" for Halloween. The limited-edition release of specially designed boxes, containing all-white hearts with no words, is available for buying or gifting to ghosters at GhostedSweethearts.com. The eponymous brand, which brought consumers "Situationship Boxes" of misprinted hearts emblematic of blurry relationships, is again making a statement — loud and blank — about ghosting. 84% of Gen Z and millennials have been ghosted, according to the Thriving Center of Psychology.

"Sweethearts aren't just for Valentine's Day anymore," said Evan Brock, vice president of marketing for Spangler Candy Company, the maker of Sweethearts. "With Ghosted Sweethearts, we're putting a stake in the heart of Halloween season and poking fun at ghosting, a spooky phenomenon of modern dating."

Consumers can purchase the special-edition boxes — or better yet, send Ghosted Sweethearts directly to someone who has ghosted them. When buying boxes for gifting, the purchaser receives an email with a link and a one-time use code. The link and code may be shared via dating apps, texts, social media DMs, email and more. But hurry, because gift codes expire at 11:59 p.m. on October 31.

"Ghosting" is the sudden or abrupt cutting off of communication with someone in a romantic relationship, a friendship or even in the workplace. According to research from Sweethearts, people want ghosting to disappear even more than they do situationships. In fact, 50% of zoomers and millennials surveyed think ghosting is the worst part of modern dating followed by breadcrumbing (39%) and situationships (35%).

However, it's not all bad news for romantic ghouls and goblins this Halloween. Gen Z and millennials hope to reach relationship milestones in 2025 such as committing to a serious relationship (39%) or falling in love for the first or even final time (34%).

The custom candies are available for $7.99 per box for a limited time, while supplies last, only at GhostedSweethearts.com. Then poof! They're gone.
